Thank you, 2019! CalifOregon! Part 1: Astoria to Bandon

We took a trip to Oregon and the California Redwoods in September.

We had to fly out of Chicago to get a direct flight to PDX, so we stayed in a hotel and had pizza at Vito & Nick's! And some pints of $1.75 Old Style beer!

We rented a car in PDX and headed for Astoria. Astoria is at the mouth of the Columbia River.

Climbed the Astoria Column

Sea lions had an opium den under the restaurant where we dined: Buoy Five. Loads of entertaining fun! The restaurant replaced part of the floor with Plexiglas so that we could see them from above.

Outside, there were Adirondack chairs set up for sea lion observing and beer drinking!

Trolley that runs along the waterfront. All volunteer crew of engineers.

Next we headed to Ft. Stevens and Lewis and Clark National Landmark and then down to Canon Beach and then stopped in Oceanside for a couple of nights in a lovely Bed and Breakfast called Turtle Jane's.

Gallons of Tillamook ice cream on hand 24 x 7. We did eat ice cream for dinner one night!

The Three Arch Rocks, view from our room

Marine layer after rain. We decided to don our suits and go swimming. In the icy Pacific! I had fun kicking up the waves.

Delicious dinner and handwritten menu at the very beachy Roseanna's cafe. Another wonderful meal of fresh fish, rice, and vegetables, and of course some white wine.

Long soaks in this lovely tub.

Drinking coffee while waiting for breakfast in the dining room of Turtle Jane's.

Rainy weather didn't stop us from hiking Meares State park to see the Octopus tree, the lighthouse and the beautiful Sitka and Salt trails high on the cliffs above the roaring Pacific!

Banana slugs

Weed dispensaries

Stopped by Pronto Pups, home of the Corn Dog and the world's only mechanical riding Corn dog!

Baked goods every afternoon at Turtle Jane's.

We continued to amble down Oregon's 362-mile rugged and stunning coastline.
